Where to go in Jamaica - Ochos Rios

While on my trip I went to about 15 different resorts around Jamaica. We walked the properties of them all, learned about the amenities the hotel had to offer and got a better sense of exactly what clientèle we might want to send to each place.

The first question you have to ask yourself when deciding on a resort is "What is most important to me?" Is it price? Location? Amenities? Family-friendly atmosphere? Food? The resort that's perfect for you may not be perfect for the next person.

Our first stop in Jamaica was Ochos Rios. Known for it's proximity to lots of fun things to do, it's a great place for families and couples looking to get away.

Beaches Boscobel
* Great for families - they have an exclusive Sesame Street program where characters roam the grounds and kids get to meet them. * Waterpark with waterslides for the kids. *Xbox Garage for anyone

The Jewel
* Formerly a Sandals resort, adults only. * King beds in most of the rooms *small intimate property *great for small weddings *spa and fitness facilities *free wifi in lobby, 24h business centre *5 min from Dunn's River
tree bar!

The view from the Jewel

obligatory "I was here" shot
Breezes Trelawny
*Ideal for families *older, somewhat tired looking resort *Sunquest offers "Family First" concept - extra values at no extra cost -no single supplement for single parents *Flying trapeze *large beach *lots of watersports included

Beach - with it's own island!

Flying trapeze! I was set to try it out. Seriously
Breezes Runaway Bay
*adults only 18+ *large infinity pool *all night disco *plunge pools on verandahs *large but quiet resort

Sunset Jamaica Grand
*Newly renovated North tower *great for families - large water park, kids club *large beach area * downside - cruise ships dock nearby and access resort on day passes
